Our Values
As dietitians, we know that all things food-related can get pretty complicated. Ask any environmental researcher and they would tell you that climate science is also pretty complicated. So it’s fair to say that when you bring these two worlds together, messaging around climate-friendly diets can get tricky and nuanced. That’s why when we launched in 2021, we vowed to uphold these values within our organization and all of our recommendations.

Evidence-informed
We evaluate and assess findings from climate change research to inform our activities and recommendations. Our practice is primarily based on evidence from life-cycle assessments of the greenhouse gas emissions produced by foods.

Inclusive
We’re committed to staying open to multiple perspectives, and aim to integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion into everything we do. Climate change actions sometimes come from a place of privilege, and diverse views and experiences help ensure a sustainable future for everyone.

Creative
We’re all for the scientific method and traditional dietitian roles. But the world is changing, and our profession needs to adapt to stay relevant. Sometimes that means thinking outside the box and trying something new.

Outcome-focused
Our goal is to mitigate climate change through dietetic practice, and to help other dietitians to do the same. To ensure we actually have an impact, we combine process- and performance-based metrics wherever possible. We also want to make sure that climate change is built into dietetic structures in the long-term: climate-friendly eating can’t be just a fad.

Responsive
We operate by continuously testing and revising our products and services based on input from practicing dietitians.

Transparent and impartial
We are open and honest about what we do and where our resources go. We’re also careful about our sources of revenue, so we can stick to the evidence and avoid partisanship or undue influence.
